KUGB Central Regions Championships 2006

The KUGB Central Regions Championships is held annually during the competition-filled Lent Term. The competition is open to all KUGB affiliated clubs in the centre of the country and is held in Chesterfield.

Competition Report

After yet another healthy start of 6.30am, and yet more navigation complications, the squad arrived at Chesterfield for the KUGB Central Regions Championships. Despite the squad not being at full numbers (our Captain was off dancing, and Konrad wasn't even in the right country) they did superbly well, representing Cambridge to the highest standard.

There were many individual medals awarded, including a gold medal for Matthias for kyu grade kumite and bronze medals for Katerina and Madeleine for dan grade kumite. Special mention goes to Richard, who won his first individual medal (silver) for his excellent kata, and to Paul, who narrowly lost out on a medal but due to successive tied results had to do his kata three times consecutively...

Donatas secured gold for dan grade kata with an impressive Sochin, and just missed out on first place in the dan grade kumite final, winning silver. Lastly, Charlie and Sarah won medals in dan grade kata. So a great selection of individual medals across all grades!

The women's team kata trio of Sarah, Madeleine and Charlie won for Cambridge with the kata Jion, followed by Ji'in in the final and successfully managed to remember which was which. Cambridge's team kumite trio of Ian, Paul and Donatas annihilated the opposition, winning the final 3-0!
